Elected Senior Vice President of the
National Rural Water Association
The National Rural Water
Association announced that Rodney Tart of Lillington, North Carolina has
been elected Senior Vice President of America’s largest utility
association assisting rural and small community water and wastewater
systems.
As Senior Vice President, much
will be demanded of Tart as he assists the association in its dedication
to clean, safe and affordable drinking water for rural America.
Tart’s work with the 2005
National Rural Water Association Board of Director’s will include
addressing regulatory, environmental, and legislative challenges facing
America’s rural water industry.
The new senior vice president is
the Director of Public Utilities for the Harnett County Department of
Public Utilities. Tart was appointed to the NRWA board in 1993 and has
served as NRWA Vice President. Additionally, he’s served as Chairman on
the Legislative Committee and also is a member of the Asset Development,
and Regulatory/Research Committees. He is Vice President for
International Rural Water Association. Tart started his water association
work with the North Carolina Rural Water Association in 1980 and has
served as President for 4 years.
Tart is very active in state and
community programs and has won many awards. He was named NRWA Man of the
Year in 1999 and received the J.W. Pate Award in 2000. He is an Alpha Chi
Scholastic Winner and was named Man of the Year by the Lillington Chamber
of Commerce. Tart has received the Lillington Kiwanis Club Distinguished
President Award and is a Kiwanis International Hixon Recipient. He is a
member of the Lillington Presbyterian Church Choir, Session Member for the
Lillington Presbyterian Church, President of Cape Fear River Assembly,
Kiwanis Club, Board of Directors Southeastern Economic Development
Commission and Board of Directors North Carolina One-Call.
Tart and his wife Nancy were
recognized during the NRWA Annual Leadership Forum Banquet on October 13,
2004 in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The National Rural Water
Association is a non-profit federation of State Rural Water Associations.
Its mission: to
provide state associations with support services to meet the needs of
their membership. NRWA is America’s largest utility association with over
24,550 members. Historically, NRWA’s state associations
have trained over 55,000 water and wastewater system personnel each year
for two decades. They also provide over 90,000 on-site technical
assistance visits a year.
