Phil Bastin Honored as Man of the Year!

 

 

National Rural Water Association is pleased to announce that Phil Bastin of Indiana is the  2004 Man of the Year Award winner.

This award is presented to an individual who most epitomizes the dedication, hard work and unselfish behavior of mankind that helps keep rural water going strong.  This honor is bestowed on an individual who has made contributions above and beyond the call of duty and whose achievements have benefited rural water on a national scale.

Bastin is General Manager of Bean Blosson-Patricksburg Water Corporation a multi-county system.  He is certified in water treatment and distribution and used his knowledge to help the people of Inidana to have safer more affordable water.  He serves on the Board of the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water acting as President during 2 years of his 19-year tenure.  Bastin has been a Director to National Rural Water Association for 16 years.  Throughout his service to NRWA he has been very active and is just finishing up his 2-year term as President.  Bastin is representative of the involvement, hard work and dedication that is the hallmark of rural water. 

Bastin is heartily supported by his wife Trudy in all of his work efforts and commitment to state and national water issues.  Phil and Trudy have a daughter and son. Daughter Rachele Michaels, Son-in-law Roger, and grandson Gavin live in Florida.  Son Ben, Daughter-in-law Karen, and granddaughter Shelby reside in Indiana.

The NRWA Awards in Excellence program was established to recognize the outstanding efforts of the Member State Affiliates, their staff, and special members of the rural water industry. 

The National Rural Water Association is a non-profit federation of State Rural Water Associations.  Its mission: to provide state associations with support services to meet the needs of their membership.  NRWA is America’s largest utility association with over 24,550 members.

Historically, NRWA’s state associations have trained over 55,000 water and wastewater system personnel each year for two decades.  They also provide over 90,000 on-site technical assistance visits a year.
