Categories: Exemplary Efforts In Environmental Protection Award The purpose of the award is to recognize a water or wastewater system, on a national level, who has demonstrated exemplary initiatives, projects, or education on the critical role of the utility in Environmental Protection to the public. Eligibility: Any water or wastewater system member of the State Rural Water Association. Any project of any type that meets the purpose of the award is eligible for consideration. Nominations to be submitted by the State Rural Water Association. We encourage your state association to implement this much like the Water Taste Contest and submit state winners to the National Level. Any questions regarding this award should be directed to Michael Harris. Excellence in Public Relations "Quality On Tap Award" The Excellence In Public Relations award is to recognize state association efforts in promoting utilities becoming involved in public relations as well as their own efforts. The Quality On Tap campaign is a key element in the effective public relations effort. It is designed to encourage and support water utilities to present a positive message to their customers and the general public. Likewise there is a wastewater logo designed to provide a visual positive PR image for the wastewater system. Evaluation Criteria:
Excellence
in Training and TA This award is to recognize training and technical assistance. It recognizes state associations who offer training and TA that goes beyond the minimum and projects a pro-active professional organization providing value added benefits to its membership. Evaluation Criteria:
Excellence
in Member Services This award recognizes state associations who continually promote the value of their association to their members and offer tangible and intangible member value benefits. Evaluation Criteria:
Excellence
in State Legislation This award recognizes activity of the association on the state level and representation of their members in state legislative issues. It is based on the membership being kept informed through their publications and the web homepage as to the benefits of the state association's activity in state legislative affairs. Evaluation Criteria:
Excellence in Magazine Publication Publications are the most visible image of
the association. It reaches more people than any other endeavor. Often an
organization's image is determined by what is printed in their publication.
A magazine is characterized as having a "separate" cover utilizing a
photograph or illustration with no article text on the front cover. Evaluation Criteria:
Excellence
in Newsletters Newsletters are designed to be more time relevant and issue orientated to keep members abreast of key issues or events. A Newsletter is characterized as having "no cover" and containing article text on the front cover. Evaluation Criteria:
Excellence
in National Legislation This award(s) recognizes the state that has developed a relationship with their national representatives and plays a key role in the accomplishment of the national legislative agenda. Evaluation Criteria:
Excellence
in Website Development Websites are fast becoming the offering of 1st choice to acquire information about the association or its activities. As somewhat new technology they also present a challenge in design and in ensuring the currency and relevance of information. This award is intended to recognize those states who utilize the web site as a key informational and public relations tool to promote their association, its membership and the industry. Evaluation Criteria:
State
Association of the Year The State Association of the Year is the most prestigious of the award categories. It is intended to recognize the association that excels in all of the award categories. This award recognizes the combined efforts of the state association to provide the ultimate representation and value to their membership. This award is intended to recognize the board, the management, the staff and the membership as the best of the best. Dell Cornell Award Description: This award is presented to individuals who, under difficult personal circumstances, continued to contribute to Rural Water and their association’s goals. The intent of the award is to recognize staff members who have undergone tremendous hardships (serious illness, heart attack, cancer, personal trauma, etc.) and have still managed to contribute to rural water through loyalty and determination.
Who can nominate: State Association Executive Director or President of the State Associations' Board
How to Nominate: If you have a staff member fitting this description, please send a 5-10 paragraph explanation of why you would like to nominate them for the Dell Cornell Award. This description should include what they do for your association, a description of the hardship suffered, how they have managed to contribute to rural water inspite of their difficult situation, and a brief bio of the individual.
