Brad Hagemeier Awarded
Joe & Jean Palmer Endowment Scholarship!


Brad Hagemeier has been awarded the 2006 Joe & Jean Palmer Endowment Scholarship by the National Rural Water Association. The Palmer Scholarship is a 4-year unrestricted award with a value of $8000.

Hagemeier attends Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota where he is working on a double major in Economics and Political Science.  He has completed 46 hours and maintains a college GPA of 3.25.

He graduated from Eden Valley-Watkins High School in 2005 with a 3.919 GPA.  While attending Eden Valley-Watkins he was Class President for 3 years, a member of the Student Council and also participated in the Investment Club.  Hagemeier was active in the National Honor Society, FFA, Varsity Knowledge Bowl, Varsity Golf, Mock Trial, Big Brothers and was a Peer Tutor.  He was a member of the College Economics Club and Trapshooting.  Additionally, he received numerous awards including: the Saint Cloud Times Student of the Week, Litchfield Radio Student of the Week, Most Improved Golfer Junior and Senior Year, Outstanding FFA Member Award, and State History Day Participant.  He also was awarded the Saint John’s University Presidents Scholarship.

In his scholarship essay, “What Being an American Means to Me,” Hagemeier summed it up well when he stated, “The most important thing American means to me is FREEDOM.” 

Brad’s father, Timothy Hagemeier, is a Wastewater Technician with Minnesota Rural Water Associaiton.

Joe and Jean Palmer were known for their dedication to Rural America.  Their character ethics and morals contributed to the success of rural water nationwide.  A retired engineer and avid environmentalist, Joe Palmer was a prominent figure in the local, state and national water industry.  He served as cofounder of the Georgia Rural Water Association and was President of NRWA from 1994 to 1996.  Jean, a former science and chemistry teacher, had a deep sense of community and operated a number of successful businesses.
