Paw Paw, Mich. wins NRWA environment award
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Representatives from the Paw Paw, Michigan walked in front of a cheering crowd to accept their award at the National Rural Water Association’s Tribute to Excellence ceremony, held on Sept. 27 in New Orleans, La.
Paw Paw is located in central Van Buren County, which is home to a winery and beautiful lake that hosts lots of tourists each summer. Because of this, it’s imperative that they make an effort to protect their water sources. Besides having a comprehensive Wellhead Protection Plan, Paw Paw has an extensive public outreach plan that includes public education. The staff excels in educating their customers and local school children on conservation, the local environment and other types of important information. Today, Paw Paw provides water to over 3,369 customers. They are a perfect example of how with proper leadership and the support of a good board, a small system can grow and set the stage for economic growth and environmental protection.
Paw Paw was selected from 27,919 water and wastewater utility members in all 50 United States and Puerto Rico.
