AMERICAN Flow Control searching for defective hydrants

Birmingham, Ala. – AMERICAN Flow Control, a division of AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., is continuing efforts to find and repair the following fire hydrants: American-Darling fire hydrant models B-84-B, B-62-B, B-50-B and MK-73 cast between 1999 and 2003, and Waterous Pacer and Trend fire hydrants cast between 1999 and 2004.
A grease additive used in these hydrants may cause corrosion that over time can make the hydrant inoperable. Since 2005, about 70 percent of affected hydrants have been fixed. AMERICAN urges hydrant owners who may have affected hydrants to check their hydrants and report any affected hydrants to the company.
AMERICAN will hire an authorized contractor to do the repairs at no expense to the owner, or it will provide a free replacement kit and labor allowance for each hydrant repaired.
More information is available on the Web for American-Darling hydrants at http://www.american-usa.com/afc/productalert/ and for Waterous hydrants at http://www.american-usa.com/afc/product_alert_waterous.
To report affected American-Darling hydrants, please call 800-326-7082 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST, or e-mail afcquestions@american-usa.com. To report affected Waterous hydrants, please call 866-683-3911 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST, or e-mail waterousquestions@waterousco.com.
