The Rural Utilities Service Loan
and Grant Program for water and wastewater systems will be able to
fund the entire backlog of applications on file with the Stimulus
Package funds. This equates to approximately $3.8 billion of
construction, upgrades and expansion of service areas and provides
funding to 94% of the public water supply systems in the nation,
rural water districts and municipal systems that serve less than
10,000 populations. This amount of funding is a major
achievement for our association when you consider that the first
stimulus proposal did not include any funding for rural water and
small municipal water and wastewater infrastructure stated Robert
Johnson, NRWA CEO. In addition, the stimulus package included
$4 billion for the Clean Water Act Revolving Loan Fund and $2
billion for the Drinking Water Act Revolving Loan Fund, which rural
water also advocated for in the legislative process.
