RENO, Nev. – The eight officers of the
National Rural Water Association’s board of directors stood
as the other 40 directors applauded. The directors elected
the new board during the meeting held during association’s
annual conference in Reno, Nev.
Fred Sheldon of Washington was elected president, Joe Liles
of Kentucky Senior Vice-President, Doug Anderton of Georgia
Vice-President, Charles Hilton of South Carolina Secretary
and Mel Aust of California Treasurer. David Baird of
Delaware, Steve Fletcher of Illinois and Rolly Olney of
Michigan were elected to the three remaining board seats.
Sheldon previously served as Senior Vice-President for NRWA.
He is from Omak, Wash. and is the Public Works Director for
the City of Omak. Sheldon was appointed to the NRWA
board in 1994 and has served as NRWA Secretary and as a
member of the Finance and Long Range Planning Committees.
He also serves on the board for Evergreen Rural Water of
Washington.
Liles was the previous Vice-President. He is from Bowling
Green, Ken. and is the General Manager for Warren, Simpson,
& Butler CWD. He began serving on the NRWA board in
1999 and has served on numerous committees including the
Executive Board and as Chairman of the Finance Committee.
He is a member of the Kentucky Rural Water Association’s
Board of Directors holding positions as vice president,
president and treasurer.
Anderton was the previous Secretary. He is from Trenton, Ga.
where he serves as General Manager for the Dade County Water
and Sewer Authority in Georgia. Anderton was appointed
to the NRWA board in 1999 and has served as Chairman of the
Program Review Committee and also is a member of the Long
Range Planning Committee. He is a member of the
Georgia Rural Water Association’s Board of Directors where
he has served as vice president and president.
Hilton is from Graniteville, S. C. and was the serving
Treasurer. Hilton is the General Manager for the Breezy Hill
Water & Sewer Co., Inc. He has served on NRWA’s board
since 1999 where he has been very active on the Finance and
Program Review Committees. Hilton began his
association work with the South Carolina Rural Water
Association in 1991 where he has served in many capacities
including president.
Aust was elected to the Executive Board in 2002. Aust is a
Director for the California Rural Water Association, member
of the Association of California Water Agencies Federal
Affairs Committee, member of the California Department of
Water Resources Drought Preparedness Committee Representing
Small Rural Systems.
