NRWA Directors recognized for contributions to rural
water
Phil
Bastin, Jim Dunlap and Rodney Tart were recognized for
their outstanding contributions to rural water at the
National Rural Water Association’s annual Tribute to
Excellence ceremony, held on October 8 in Reno, Nev.
Bastin and Dunlap were given the Clark Cronquist Award,
a career achievement award, and Tart was named the 2008
NRWA Man of the Year.
Bastin was elected to the NRWA board of directors in
1993, serving as president of the executive board from
2000 to 2002. He has served on the water sector
coordinating council and the finance committee during
his tenure as a national director. Bastin is the general
manager of the water company in Spencer, Ind., and has
won numerous awards serving there. He was named General
Manager of the Year in 1994, and received the Bud Dale
Distinguished Service Award in 1997. Bastin has also
served on the board for his state association, elected
in 1990, and serving as president and secretary.
Dunlap was elected to the NRWA board in 1979 as served
as president from 1994 to 1996. A long-time member of
the water industry, Dunlap was named the NRWA Man of the
Year in 1995 and 1998. He received the Dell Cornell
award, which recognizes individuals who have undergone
tremendous hardships and have still managed to
contribute to rural water through loyalty and
determination. In 2005, Dunlap was given the James F.
Cole alumni award from New Mexico State University. He
has served on the legislative, by-laws and program
review committees during in tenure on the NRWA board.
Tart, the past
president of the association, also won the award in
1999. He was elected to the NRWA board in 1993 and has
served on the By-Laws, Legislative and Long Range
Planning committees.
