Louisiana rural water supporting utilities after hurricane

Recovery teams from the Louisiana Rural Water Association continue work in the Cameron parish area.  Two of the six systems have restarted their systems and begun chlorination. The Hackberry area received heavy flooding from Hurricane Ike and the system in that area is operating on one well. Once line power is restored to the second well, the utility can begin flushing the distribution system.
The Holly Beach/Johnson Bayou system is still operating on generators.  This system replaced a 40 hp electric motor at the Holly Beach tank site, the system will begin pressuring the water lines to Johnson Bayou as soon as the generator is repaired.
The LRWA staff continues to provide generators and support in the affected parishes as needed.
