FSA Administrator tours Iowa source water protection

NEWTON, Iowa – Iowa Rural Water Association was fortunate to host Glen Keppy, Associate Administrator for Programs, USDA Farm Service Agency, for a Source Water Protection Tour in south central Iowa July 16-17. Lisa Walters, Source Water Protection Specialist led Keppy through a number of locations  to showcase past and current community water systems that have worked with IRWA to protect their source.
The event started with a welcome reception on Tuesday evening that was well attended by industry professionals and state regulators, including Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, State Farm Service Agency Executive Director Derryl McLaren and Department of Natural Resources Director Richard Leopold.  The event continued with a two day tour that included stops to Rathbun Lake Watershed projects, Lamoni Municipal Utilities, Osceola Water Department, and the City of Leon to look at and discuss source water protection efforts.
Keppy, was appointed by President Bush in 2004 to supervise and administer conservation programs, like the source water protection program funds that Iowa Rural Water Association receives.  His term will expire in January 2009.
