It
is always fun to spend time with Tom
Dorr, Under Secretary for Rural
Development for the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA).
In his second year of participating,
Dorr was one of three judges at the
8th Annual Great American
Water Taste Test. He joined Melanie
Rhinehart, Legislative Director for
Congressman Earl Pomeroy (North
Dakota) and David Roskowic, Area
Manager for Engineered Storage
Products.
As he sniffed, slurped and gurgled
the five different water samples,
Dorr shinned brightly. His beaming
smile and engaging dialogue with the
other judges helped to make the
event grand. They quickly made
their selection and the winning
water came from the Three Rivers
Fire District in Massachusetts.
The Town of Avilla became the Silver
Medal Winner followed by the City of
Mt. Shasta, California.
During the event all emphasis was on
the excellent water available in
rural America. Dorr shared many
kind words about Rural Water showing
the cooperative spirit of USDA’s
Rural Development. Said succinctly,
“Their efforts combined with Rural
Water’s have changed the lives of
millions.”
